On November 13, the Center celebrated the grand opening of our newest social enterprise: Destination Café. Over 60 people attended the celebration, including staff, family, friends and business partners. Attendees enjoyed a buffet of heavy appetizers and desserts and joined in a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Destination Café will help further the Center’s mission of improving the lives of people with disabilities, by providing opportunities for training and employment. The full-service restaurant will allow participants interested in food service to grow and broaden their skills, expanding from baking skills taught at Destination Desserts. The restaurant will also allow the Center to offer training to more St. Louis City residents than before.
The restaurant is open for dinner, serving a wide selection of dishes, many inspired by destinations around the world, but with an American twist – such as a Cajun ziti or a gyro burger. Other dishes are American classics like a grilled cheese dipper appetizer served with tomato bisque or tenderloin steak tips served with mashed potatoes.
Desserts are available and include gooey butter cake, cookies and cupcakes prepared by our bakery, Destination Desserts.
Destination Café is located at 3182 Morganford Road, in the Tower Grove South neighborhood of St. Louis City. Destination Café is open from 4 to 9 p.m.Tuesday through Saturday. The restaurant expects to expand to weekend brunch and weekday lunch in the near future.
Destination Café was made possible thanks to the visionary support of the St. Louis Office for Developmental Disability Resources. The Center also received support from the Dana Brown Charitable Trust, the Employees Community Fund of the Boeing Company, the Saigh Foundation, the St. Louis Philanthropic Organization, the Wells Fargo Foundation and an anonymous donor.
