The Center was honored as a 2018 TORCH Award Winner by the St. Louis Better Business Bureau® along with two other area nonprofit organizations and nine area businesses. The TORCH Awards were presented at a luncheon held at the Chase Park Plaza Hotel in St. Louis on October 18, 2018.

Donna Gunning with Kevin Deptula, BBB Board Chair, and Michelle Corey, BBB President & CEO

The BBB TORCH Awards recognize companies and charities that are committed to exceptional standards for ethical business practices and service to their customers, employees, suppliers and communities. The BBB looks for businesses and nonprofits that others will want to emulate.

Donna Gunning, the Center’s executive director, accepted the award on the Center’s behalf. In response to winning a TORCH Award, Donna said, “It is a true honor to be recognized for all of our efforts to continuously meet the standards the BBB sets for charities. Transparency and trust are essential to a nonprofit’s ability to serve its consumers, comply with funding sources and attract donors. We are proud to represent what makes St. Louis nonprofit organizations some of the best in the nation.”

Donna was joined at the ceremony by Board Vice President James “Jay” Smith and a group of Center employees. Jay Smith and Board President Mark Riordan generously sponsored a table at the luncheon, so that Center employees could attend and be recognized alongside Donna for the Center’s achievement.

2018 TORCH Award Winners

As part of the luncheon ceremony, a short video was produced focusing on each winner. The Center’s video is below.

BBB TORCH Award winners are chosen by a panel comprising past TORCH Award winners. The panel looks for businesses and charities that show creativity in their ability to manage customer expectations, provide excellent customer service and resolve disputes. They must demonstrate the ways they inspire their workforce to adopt and communicate their ethics and further their mission. They must embody truth in advertising and help foster ethics within their industry and community.

In addition to this honor from the St. Louis Better Business Bureau, the Center is also proud to be a BBB Accredited Charity. Each year, the Center submits information to the BBB for review and our organization consistently meets the BBB‘s Standards for Charity Accountability, which seek to encourage fair and honest solicitation practices, to promote ethical conduct by charitable organizations and to advance support of philanthropy.

The Center is proud to be recognized and we congratulate the other 2018 winners.
