Thanks to generous donors and passionate supporters spreading the word, the Center for Head Injury Services set an organization record on Giving Tuesday 2016. On Tuesday, November 29, 2016, the Center was able to raise more than $2,000!
Giving Tuesday is a global day dedicated to giving back, started in 2012 by the 92nd Street Y and the United Nations Foundation as a response to commercialization and consumerism in the post-Thanksgiving season (i.e., Black Friday and Cyber Monday). The Center joined global movement in 2014 and has participated ever since. Giving Tuesday helps charities and nonprofits to harness the collective power of individuals, organizations and our communities to encourage and inspire generosity. Giving Tuesday isn’t about one donation. It’s about how support from lots of people creates a combined impact. Every gift, big and small, makes a difference.
All donations made on Giving Tuesday will go towards the renovation costs for the Center’s new facility. The new facility, which will be the Center’s new headquarters, will allow us to double the number of people we serve. Renovations will include ADA restrooms, internal and external ramps, two commercial training kitchens for our social enterprises – Destination Desserts and Wags in a Bag, therapy rooms, a state-of-the-art therapy gym, interior offices and classrooms and universal design elements for access by people with disabilities.
The donations will also help us meet a challenge grant from the J. E. and L. E. Mabee Foundation of Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Mabee Foundation pledged to grant the Center $140,000 towards our building renovation if we could meet the challenge to raise $603,500. With the gifts made on Giving Tuesday, we have raised over 95 percent of that goal!
If you missed the chance to give to the Center on Giving Tuesday, but you are still inspired to support our mission of helping people with disabilities lead full and productive lives, please make a donation to the Center today. When you donate through the PayPal Giving Fund, there are no processing fees – plus PayPal will match 1% of gifts made through December 31, 2016. That means 101% of your gift will go to the Center!
Thank you for your support on #GivingTuesday and your continued support throughout the year!
