THE PROGRAM

With one in 78 children now diagnosed with autism, school systems have made great strides in providing services to help them reach their full potential. What happens, however, once these young people graduate? Little resources were available in the St. Louis region until 2009, when a group of dedicated parents and a diverse group of professionals in the field of autism set out to address this need, designing the Midwest Adult Autism Project (MAAP).

MAAP, a service of the Center for Head Injury Services, is now available, providing a simulating, safe and structured environment for young adults with autism. Using best practices, MAAP combines structured day services with targeted therapies imbedded into the program. Many of the individuals we now serve had previously been unable to succeed in other disability programs or work settings. MAAP provides services customized to meet the needs of adults with autism. MAAP seeks to improve their self-sufficiency, independence and community living skills to advance their personal goals.
